The Riviera Zoological Station It cannot be overstated that 20 minutes from Nice, in Cros-de-Cagnes, there is a zoological station that deserves one or even several visits. It's, in miniature, the Jardin d'Acclimatation of Paris. "L'Eclaireur du Dimanche" felt compelled to inform its readers of the fortunate initiative of Mr. G. Basilewsky, who brings a new attraction to our shores. Thanks to our privileged climate, Mr. Basilewsky was able to gather animals living in the most distant tropical regions. We cannot list here all the species we saw the other day during a quick visit. Let us nevertheless mention the white and speckled fallow deer, Syrian goats, African antelopes and flamingos, llamas, various breeds of monkeys, ostriches, lomurcats, a chimpanzee, small Siberian bears, dromedaries, parrots, leopards, jackals, Australian robins, peacocks, and what else? All these animals, each more interesting than the last, are harmoniously grouped among an infinite variety of flowers. A visit to the Zoological Station is not only instructive, but very pleasant. We sincerely recommend it. Mr. G. Basilewsky is pursuing a useful work that deserves to be encouraged. We offer him our warmest congratulations. G. VAN CLEEFF. |
