Le Funi - May 31, 1925

We have already introduced our readers to a very young artist, little Eliane Thumerelle, barely 7 years old, whose charming features we are happy to portray today.Le Funi 1925 05 31 art 01 a rising star
This admirably gifted little girl already possesses, thanks to the teaching of her father, the fine composer André Thumerelle, remarkable talents as a singer, storyteller, and actress.
Most recently at the Sorbonne and, the other Sunday, at the Japy Gymnasium, this lovely child captivated thousands of spectators who gave her a true triumph.
Last week, little Eliane premiered at the Théâtre de Mogador: Once Upon a Time..., a prologue to Peter Pan, with music by the eminent composer Jean Nouguès. In addition, she sang every Saturday at the Foire Saint-Germain. Our colleague, the poet-fabulist Charles-Albert Janot, author of the fables and the dramatic comedy La Pipe, in which the young artist performs, told us:
"Little Éliane, let me be clear, has nothing in common with those so-called child prodigies, as well-regulated as automatons, whom we are accustomed to seeing performing childish sketches or reciting innocuous monologues. She is also far superior to the kids in the movies since she is a complete artist who charms both the ear and the sight.
"My charming performer acts by instinct. Her acting, her voice, are in no way contrived or conventional. From one day to the next, and this is the true sign of talent, she varies her interpretation by imagining new intonations and gestures, always perfectly appropriate." When she performs, the audience is literally gripped by the true accents and natural attitudes of this little woman who knows how to unleash laughter as well as bring sweet tears to the surface.
"And for us authors too (isn't that true, Jehan Rictus?), our eyes well up and we blow our noses very loudly when Eliane recites, with all her sensitive and vibrant soul of a child of Paris, the verses we composed for her.
"Add to that the fact that, very well-bred, this blonde little girl is in no way intoxicated by the successes she achieves. She is a playful and laughing child like all those her age and who, moreover, has a heart of gold. Judge for yourself: at a recent dinner for authors and artists, a Belgian composer asked Eliane, who was my neighbor, what her dream was for the future. After a few blinks of her eyelashes, she opened her superb blue eyes wide and, looking straight into the questioner's eyes, she replied: "I, sir, want to earn a lot of money to make unhappy little children happy!" And I beg you to believe that this was not a phrase spoken to astonish the audience; this wish, which she wrote down immediately in the autograph album presented to her, clearly expressed the intimate, spontaneous thoughts of this exquisite child-artist.
"I am currently composing a work for her entitled: A Rising Star. And you can guess that Eliane is the main, living character!" We share Mr. Janot's opinion; we must remember the name Eliane Thumerelle; Before long, we'll see it shining in fiery letters atop the boulevard houses: Éliane is a new star rising in the firmament of glory. Let us wish her all the success and happiness she deserves.
Le Funi will keep its readers informed when Éliane Thumerelle performs for the Belleville audience.

LELIAN.

No one remembers her name, the little girl is a complete unknown in the 21st century, like her father of whom there is no trace.
