THE CIVIL WAR IN CHINA THE CHINESE BOLSHEVIKS ARE MASTERS OF CANTON
London, June 13 (dep. P. Parisien.) It has been announced from Canton that the Cantonese troops, formerly the troops of Sun Yat Sen, the former dictator of Canton who rallied to Bolshevism, have won an easy victory over the Yunnanese troops. The Cantonese troops wear red ties, and a number of Russian officers, sent by the Soviets, are among them. They crossed the river at Honam last night and landed early this morning at Tumpo. Hostilities began immediately; a few hours later, the attackers managed to enter the city. The Yunnanese troops were driven from Tungsham. They fled northwest, pursued by the victors. Canton is calm at the moment. The soldiers committed only minor looting. In Beijing, merchant representatives marched to the head of the executive branch, urging him to be firm during negotiations with the powers regarding the incidents in Shanghai. The Chinese press published a list of English and Japanese companies to be boycotted. Furthermore, the Chinese government called on provincial governors to protect foreigners. Eight hundred soldiers under Marshal Thang Tso Lin, coming from Nanking, have arrived in Shanghai, where premises are being prepared for Thang Tso Lin's son, who commands them. Unrest continues among the masses in Shanghai, and there is a feeling that the slightest incident could cause serious disorder. The British cruiser Dispatch left Shanghai this morning for Hankou.
