Last week in Chicago, a young woman, after being fined 16 francs for slapping a rival, exclaimed, "At that price, it's cheap!" and promptly slapped her stunned rival two more times.
But an American millionaire who, in a moment of exasperation, placed his hand on his wife's cheek three times, paid much more for this insulting gesture.
The offended woman filed for divorce on the grounds of cruelty, and the court, after reprimanding the husband and granting the divorce, awarded the victim compensation of $1,100,000, which at current exchange rates represents about 8 million francs for each slap.
