Emile Ollivier, whose centenary arrives on July 2nd, was a fervent mountaineer and tireless tourist. It is little known, for example, that with the lawyer Charles Limet, he traveled on foot from Strasbourg to Milan in 1854. One day, while hiking alone in the Jura mountains, he fell more than fifty meters, which in no way diminished his passion for the mountains, which undoubtedly contributed to his long and lively old age. Until his dying day, Emile Ollivier took a keen interest in the development of sports; and his son, Mr. Jocelyn-Emile Ollivier, a friendly and charming friend of the Auto and a regular at Saint-Gervais, was an eclectic and enthusiastic sportsman. |
