They offer lenders the chance to raise any productive animal for them. In this vein, the pig holds the record, and there are countless model piggeries where one can even, on a fixed date, track the profits of one's "investment," right up to the moment it is delivered to the executioner.
Recently, the same operation was proposed for fur-bearing animals, with the promise of a handsome profit.
It seems certain that the gold pig or the gold fox are likely to be more stable assets than our currency or our government securities.

The idea is ingenious, to say the least.
