A GREAT LAND-BASED LIGHTHOUSE
The upcoming commissioning of the Mount Africa lighthouse has been announced. Mount Africa, the summit of the Côte-d'Or department and massif, located 8 kilometers west-southwest of Dijon, south of the Ouche Valley, is an isolated plateau nearly 2 kilometers long and just under 600 meters above sea level. From this plateau, one has a marvelous view of the vast plains of the Saône, ending in the long Jura ranges, above which, at times, one can glimpse, beneath their blanket of eternal snow, the highest peaks of the Alps. The lighthouse, which has just been built there, will serve as a marker for the Paris-Algiers flight route, passing through Lyon. Its beam of light will be visible in average weather at a distance of approximately 150 kilometers and, in clear weather, at a distance of over 500 kilometers.
