London, June 27 (dep. P. Parisien.) The situation in China has reportedly improved slightly. However, the disruption of maritime trade continues. In the centers affected by the strike, unrest is manifesting itself in fits and starts.
A Reuters message from Beijing reports that the diplomatic corps has decided to entrust the ministers of France, Italy, and the United States with the task of negotiating a possible settlement of the situation in Shanghai. This decision is reportedly explained by the fact that the aforementioned ministers are less involved in the conflict than their British and Japanese colleagues.
The French consul in Canton has sent a note to the civil governor in which, while anticipating a demand for compensation for the murder of Mr. Pasquier, he states that further attacks will provoke the use of force and requests that the authorities take measures to ensure peace and tranquility. No response has been received to this note. In Hong Kong and Canton the situation is calm and supplies are assured.
