A Tragi-Comic Scene
A young woman from Lyon, Mrs. Guerlet, tired of her husband's brutality, had filed divorce proceedings against him and left the marital home. The conciliation meeting took place, as usual, at the Palais de Justice. In vain, Mr. Guerlet begged his wife to relent. She pushed him away and returned home with a friend. But, along the way, she had the unfortunate idea of sitting on the terrace of a café. She had been there for a few minutes when Mr. Guerlet, who had followed her, appeared again and resumed his entreaties. Seeing that she remained steadfast, the husband suddenly pulled a revolver from his pocket. Mrs. Guerlet, panicked, tried to take refuge inside the café. He pursued her, still threatening her. But the customers who were there were also afraid. As a few shots rang out, they rushed on all fours under the tables. Madame Guerlet, however, sought refuge in a bedroom of the house. When the husband was arrested, fortunately, there were no casualties. The ammunition was of such poor quality that there were no injuries or damage.
