THERE IS NOT A SINGLE FRENCH SOLDIER LEFT IN THE RUHR
Since Friday, the last French soldier has left the Ruhr. During the morning, the headquarters abandoned the building it had occupied in Essen since January 1923. Shortly after, the 2,400 men stationed there marched through the city, the great industrial city, on their way to the train station. Like the garrisons of other cities upon their departure, they marched through the streets in broad daylight, flags unfurled and bugles blaring. France has thus kept the promise given on its behalf in London last year by Mr. Herriot. The evacuation even took place two weeks before the set date. And, on August 15, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, and Ruhr, the sanctions territories, will, in turn, have been evacuated.
