Candidates for the Reich Presidency

Mr. Marx
Chancellor after the May elections, he could not govern due to lack of a majority. After the dissolution of the Reichstag and the December elections, the same situation arose again. Mr. Marx failed six times in his attempt to form a Cabinet. It was then that he gave way to Dr. Luther.

Dr. Luther
The latter is a populist partisan of the Treaty of Versailles in words, but in reality hostile to conciliation. After Marx's failure, he formed an extra-parliamentary and reactionary government. But the real head of this government is much more Stresemann than Luther; the latter, who was Minister of Finance, appears, in fact, more like a bureaucrat than a great politician... A partisan of conciliation and of the execution of the Dawes Plan, he is one of the firm supporters of the Weimar Constitution.

Mr. Jarres
As for Mr. Jarres, who also belongs to the populist party, he is known above all for his pan-German ideas.

Of the three, the one who seems to have the best chance is the first. Recently charged with forming the Prussian Cabinet, after Braun's resignation, he failed before the Landtag as he had failed before the Reichstag and for the same reasons.
There was talk of him making a new attempt, but it is more likely that he will accept the candidacy for the Presidency of the Reich.
