Mr. Coolidge's Swearing-in as President of the Republic of the United States SOME CHARACTERISTIC PHRASES FROM HIS INAUGURAL ADDRESS
- If we expect others to trust in our loyalty and justice, we must show that we trust in their loyalty and justice.
- Treaties will fail, the sword will fail; it is only the spiritual nature of man that can be triumphant.
- America's program must never be to oppress, but always to help.
- We have already contributed largely to the settlement of disputes in Europe and Asia, but it is only possible to help those who help themselves.
- Mindful of these limitations, the great duty that is imposed upon us is to use our enormous power to balance the scales of the world.
