Work accidents and cleaning ladies

Accidents at work and housekeepers

Paris, 7. Here is a decision that may be of interest to all those who employ housekeepers.
Should a housekeeper be the victim of an accident at work, only the salary she earns in the house where she was injured be taken into account, or should the salary she earns with other employers not be taken into account when calculating the pension to be awarded to her?
The 9th Chamber of the Court ruled that a housekeeper must be considered as a worker cooperating in the same continuous work as domestic servants properly speaking.
Therefore, the salary used as a basis for calculating the pension must only include her actual salary in the service of the master in whose employ she was injured, without any reference being made to the earnings she earned with other employers.

Cassation of a decision of the Calvados Assize Court

Paris, 7. The Criminal Division of the Court of Cassation has quashed the decision rendered on 12 January 1924 by the Calvados Assize Court. which had sentenced René Fatry, 28, a farm worker, to death.
The procedural defect that led to the cassation was the failure of one of the witnesses heard by the Assize Court to take an oath.
René Fatry, who was in the service of the Morel couple, farmers in Saint-Pierre-Canivet, had killed, on 8 May 1924, with a point-blank shot, Miss Léa Ledenie, the niece of his employers, who refused to marry him. After the crime, he had tried to drown himself in a cistern, then shot himself in the jaw.
