The wheelchair.

If you are "someone," you will be allowed to enter the Senate via the main staircase. Don't forget to look to your left, next to the elevator. You will see, under a canvas cover, a wheelchair designed to move the infirm or the legless. This wheelchair has its own history. The Americans (they think of everything) gave it to the Senate as a gift, some of them having noticed how laborious the walking was for some senators when they wanted to come to the Luxembourg Palace. A bailiff is responsible for maintaining it, and this duty earns him an additional gratuity of 48 francs per month.

And a century later, at the Palais Bourbon, the "sit-stand" vote was abolished in the Assembly with the proposal of MP Sébastien Peytavie from Périgord Noir, the first MP in a wheelchair.
