Gustave Waldau, considered one of the best Austrian actors, gave his opinion on diction in a Viennese newspaper:
"I believe," he said, "that perfection of delivery and expression lies in the art of breathing through a hollow tooth. Every actor should have one incisor tooth emptied, preferably, and strive to transform it into a reservoir of physical and spiritual breath. Actors with a lot of breath, strong tenors among others, must naturally work with several hollow teeth. In the cavity of a tooth, the artist's soul is concentrated and multiplied." Let's not forget to add that Gustave Waldau is a comic actor.
