It is a terrible disgrace to be called Hugo, The art of being a grandson is as difficult as the art of being a grandfather. If Georges Hugo had not been the grandson of the illustrious poet, no one would have contested his talent as a painter and even as a writer.
But it is a terrible disgrace to be called Hugo. The art of being a grandson is as difficult as the art of being a grandfather.
Georges Hugo felt this glorious disgrace very keenly. He was wearing out his life rather than living it. He was getting dizzy.
Last year, relates "Aux Ecoutes", Georges Hugo had the fancy of attending the ball of the Quatre Z'Arts, disguised as a hoplite. Wearing a cardboard helmet, he presented himself at the door of the hall, but the sadness and old age of his features gave him away.
What is this old rapin? shouted the young men in charge of the control at the sight of him, and, with the cruelty of their age, they overwhelmed their elder with mockery and sarcasm: "You are too old, my old man, to come and play the fool with us!" This disappointment hurt the melancholy artist very much. He returned home very dejected.
