Salaries of United States Senators Washington, February 18. The Senate Finance Committee has adopted a resolution in favor of a bill to increase the allowances of senators and congressmen by $2,500, which would raise the allowance to $10,000 a year. In justifying these increases, the Committee points out that the cost of living has increased 60 per cent over prewar prices. Under these conditions, the United States senators declare, it is decent for the nation to pay its legislators enough to spare them the necessity of attending to their own affairs at the expense of national affairs. It is hoped that the Committee's resolution will pave the way for the salary increase bill. |
