In Turkey, the Kurdish revolt is spreading to the west

IN TURKEY
The Kurdish revolt spreads to the west

The news that arrived yesterday of the Kurdish insurrection, although confused and often contradictory, leaves no doubt as to the seriousness of the revolt that is developing rapidly.
A dispatch from the Exchange Telegraph announced the bombardment by the Turkish fleet of the village of Haten, where the leaders of the movement are said to be. But it seems that the center of the insurrection is further south, between the Tigris valley and Persia.
According to the latest information from Angora, 20,000 insurgents have taken control of the vilayets of El Aziz, Darsim, Diarbekir and Kharpout, in the upper Tigris valley. Detachments of the army and the gendarmerie, and in particular 150 officers proscribed by the government of Angora, have joined them. The Anatolia Agency published the following note yesterday:
The named Chich Said, abusing the credulity and ignorance of the people and under the cover of religious pretexts, provoked an uprising in the region of Guendje, Bolo and El Aziz. The Turkish government has taken the necessary measures to restore order and has proclaimed a state of siege in the said region. The popular party, in its meeting of February 24, fully approved the measures taken by the government.
The Republican deputies are said to have asked the government to extend to the whole of Turkey the regime of martial law already proclaimed in Kurdistan. The troops are concentrating on various points in the revolt zone and it is hoped in Angora that they will quickly put down the rebellion.
