At the Concert Européen "The Chaste Boxer
Operetta in 3 acts by MM. Jean de Létraz and Jean Lyjo A fantasy whose excess does not exceed the amiably popular genre has just been presented to the delighted public of the Concert Européen, before going on tour in the suburbs. It is the story of a young schoolboy with whom a nice typist falls in love. The latter, to distance him from the assiduity of a demi-mondaine, advises him to become a boxer, counting on the obligatory chastity inherent in the profession of boxer. It is understood that various characters, more or less comical, will work to thwart, if not the new vocation, at least the chastity of the attractive young man, that he will triumph over them and his opponent in the ring and will become the lover of the little typist whose vindictive infidelity he suspected because he had disobeyed by going to fight against his last-minute prayer. Marriage will fix everything. On this easy and nice theme, Mr. de Létraz, who has already proven to us that he lacks neither wit nor finesse, and Mr. Lyjo have sketched out three acts lending themselves to an equally easy and happy music whose tunes are of those that are held back. Do I need to add that the role of the boxing schoolboy is moreover held with authority by Mr. Lyjo. Mmes Lucily, Rose Paradis, Hélène Pascot, MM. Devily, Saint-Luc, Montigny, etc... etc... strive with appreciable success to play in the tradition of this kind of entertainment.
