The explanation of the boxing match between Richards and Thomson

The main facts

This is a fairy tale, but a very modern fairy tale. A charming typist from London found herself courted by two young men, Richards and Thomson, but the poor woman could not make up her mind which husband to choose, as she was so equally attracted to both suitors. They wanted to end it all and looked for a way to resolve the problem. The young girl told them. It was to get into the ring, fight like professional boxers and declare the winner of the match the winner of the beauty.
Things happened as agreed, as fairly as possible. In the first round, Richards bled from the nose. In the second, from the mouth. He seemed very badly off. But in the third round, in a burst of energy, he stretched out his opponent at his feet.
When he returned from the land of dreams, Thomson embraced his rival and himself joined the hands of his conqueror and the pretty typist.
