The police hunt down the undesirables

Undertaken vigorously by the Petit Journal, the campaign against undesirable foreigners is bearing fruit. Just as we must strive to make the stay in France pleasant for tourists, so we must defend the French against the invasion of an international underworld that abuses our hospitality.
Among other energetic means, the police raid dives every day in Paris. One of the last operations of this kind took place in a clandestine gambling den on the rue Jean-Lantier, a street near Les Halles. In the middle of the night, Mr. Guillaume, commissioner of the judicial police, assisted by inspectors, showed up unexpectedly in a room where there were about fifty men, most of them busy playing cards with knives planted near them on the table.
At the energetic command "Hands up!" only six men obeyed. There were only six Frenchmen out of fifty players! Of course, all these undesirables will be expelled.
