LIEUTENANT SMYTH HAS NO LUCK

About two months ago, Canadian Lieutenant Smyth, who intended to travel by paddling from Nova Scotia to Rome by canals, arrived in Paris. Yesterday he intended, after this long stopover, to jump into the Seine in a canoe from the top of the Pont de la Concorde, but he was prevented from doing so by the police.
