A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING
Fluid soap for the beard. Macerate cold until completely dissolved: 200 grams of white Marseille soap, cut into thin strips, in 400 grams of 60-degree alcohol. Then flavor by adding a few drops of your favorite essence. Shake several times and put in tightly capped bottles. This liquid soap is far superior to ordinary soap. It can be put in small bottles. Just pour a few drops into a little warm water and lather with a badger brush.
How to remove stains from knife blades.
When there are stains on the blades, they must be removed before washing or polishing using one of the following methods. Rub the blade with lemon juice, wipe immediately, otherwise the astringent liquid will damage it, or use a wet cork coated with fine wood ash.
Cake without butter or eggs. You need 250 grams of wheat flour or half wheat flour and half rice flour, 125 grams of crushed sugar, a glass of cold milk, a tablespoon of jam of your choice, a teaspoon of Vichy salt or baking soda, a handful of Corinthian or Smyrna raisins, a little orange or mandarin peel, either fresh or dried, a little angelica, but this last item is not essential. As a refinement, you can macerate the raisins in rum or kirsch. Preparation. Mix all these ingredients together, carefully and for a long time, in a large container. Take a rectangular mold, of a volume greater than that of the mixture, because the cake will swell by half during cooking. Place a white paper (serrated if possible) and coated with butter inside the mold and in the bottom. If you don't have a mold, an empty biscuit box can be used. Pour the mixture into a mold, put the mold in the oven at moderate heat, let cook for about an hour. This cake can be eaten hot or cold and can be kept for a very long time. If you want to unmold the cake, you must wait until it has cooled.
