French insurers are angry

THE EXHIBITION OF DECORATIVE ARTS
and the question of insurance

We have received the following letter

Paris, January 29, 1925. Mr. Director;
We would be grateful if you would inform your readers of the following notice concerning the insurance of objects exhibited at the Exhibition of Decorative Arts:
"On behalf of the forty-four French insurance companies and societies constituting our groups, on behalf of all the brokers' unions and the National Federation of General Insurance Agents' Unions of France, we have a duty to inform exhibitors of the situation they are in."

"The general commissioner of the exhibition, without asking the French companies for the pricing conditions under which they could take charge of exhibitors' insurance, without resorting to competition as is customary when the interest of a community is at stake, has dealt with a group of foreign insurers."
"By two circulars dated December 20, 1924 and January 6, and by a press release published on January 28, the general commission claims to require all exhibitors to take out insurance with these foreign insurers under conditions arbitrarily determined by it, contrary to the stipulations of the exhibition regulations (article 20) and the conditions of the requests for provisional admission."
The exhibitors have never delegated their powers concerning insurance to the exhibition administration; they have never given it the mission of excluding French companies in favor of foreigners; they have never renounced choosing their insurers, nor seeking the most advantageous premiums and conditions."
The exhibitors intend to maintain their independence and exercise their rights. So we come to tell them: "Do not sign any commitment for your insurance before having asked your usual agents and brokers for the policy and rate conditions of French insurance companies.

For insurance companies and societies, fire and all risks:
Mr. Matignon, president of the Union syndicale des sociétés d'assurances françaises. For land insurance brokers Messrs. Bouyer, J. Soudeillette, G. Franchelli, Grzybowski. For general insurance agents: Mr. Goupil, vice-president of the Fédération nationale des agents généraux d'assurances.
