In pictures, the invention of a new type of device : the mirror at the shoemaker's

Who is the strongest man in the world? It is very difficult to say. However, the one represented in our photograph could enter if a competition were organized. He is a Russian Cossack, named A.-S. Zass.
This Cossack has such vigorous muscles that with a single blow of his fist armed with an awl, he goes through a wooden beam.
You can see, in the photo we are giving, a hole made in this way in the lower part of the beam. The man is preparing to repeat his extraordinary feat in the upper part.

When you go to the shoe merchant, you are obliged, most of the time, to rely on him as to the more or less distinguished appearance of your purchase. An inventor wanted to remedy this difficulty and, for this purpose, has created a device of an entirely new kind.
The two feet being placed in a sort of oblong box, a set of mirrors, lit by electric light, allows the buyer to see his shoes as conveniently as if he were observing a passer-by... or a passer-by. Even better, because, in this case, the feet are motionless and support, without flinching, an examination as prolonged as one wishes.
