CURIOSITY
This last day of the week was very brilliant and there were many things to glean in the various rooms. The big piece was, in room 6, a precious morocco casket that had belonged to Marie-Antoinette and bore her coat of arms. MM. Paulme and Lasquin asked for 50,000 francs. M. Lair Dubreuil sold it for 40,100 francs. A Louis XII book of hours, that had belonged to Jeanne de Marbeuf was paid for 9,000 francs; a seventeenth-century casket, 19,000 francs; and among the engravings: Louisa, by Smith and Ward, 4,800 francs; Chanters, by Smith, 4,700 francs; Bachelor's hall, by Alken, 3,100 francs; the Public Promenade, by Debucourt, 5,500 francs. Mr. Desvouges and Mr. Pape sold some antique furniture, including a chest of drawers by Riesener sold for 20,150 francs; ten Louis XV caned chairs, 15,000 francs; mahogany chest of drawers, chiffonier and secretary, 10,250 francs, Louis XVI pedestal table, 10,000 francs; small Louis XVI desk, 8,800 francs. Mr. Henri Baudoin sold books, including a portrait of Rousseau and 37 figures by Moreau the Younger and his works, London, 1774, 4,000 francs Mr. R. Hémard and Mr. Max Bine obtained some good prices for drawings, among which I noted a pretty page by Goya, Moorish Fighter, 1,620 francs.
