LOeuvre 1924 11 23 Mr. Diagne, MP from Senegal, against the newspaper "Les Continents". A defamation trial in which the witnesses cited will weigh heavily.

A DEFAMATION TRIAL
Mr. Diagne against "Les Continents

Tomorrow and next Tuesday, before the Assize Court, the defamation trial brought by Mr. Diagne, a Senegalese MP, against the newspaper "Les Continents", which is run by Mr. René Maran, the author of Batouala, will open.

On October 15, the newspaper Les Continents published an unsigned article entitled: "The Good Apostle", in which Mr. Diagne, former High Commissioner for Black Troops, was accused of having received, during the war, a commission for each soldier recruited.
By direct summons, the Senegalese MP, as a public figure, sued "Les Continents" in the person of the manager-owner, Jean Faujeat, before the Assize Court.
It is Mr. Flory, the advisor to the Court, who will lead the debates. Mr. Alcide Delmont will represent the civil party and Mr. Ernest-Charles will defend "The Continents".

Among the witnesses cited by Mr. Diagne, we note the names of Messrs. Clemenceau, Painlevé, General Gouraud. Angoulvant, Brunet, Maginot, Pierre Masse, Mandel, Henri Simon, etc.

The defense has called Messrs. General Sarrail, General Verraux. Ernest Lafont, André Berthon, Félicien Challave, Henri Béraud, Gouttenoire de Toury, René Maran, etc...

Blaise Diagne
