THE FUTURE PRESIDENT OF THE CHINESE REPUBLIC PEKIN, November 22. Tuan Tsi Jouei, the future President of the Chinese Republic, arrived today, although he was not expected until the 26th. He was accompanied by his Anfu supporters. In official circles, it is said that Tuan Tsi Jouei would offer the portfolio of Foreign Affairs to Tang Shao Yi and that he intends to form an independent cabinet. (The appointment of Tuan Tsi Jouei to the presidency of the Republic consecrates the victory of Tchang Tso Lin and his ally from Canton, Sun Yat Sen. Tchang Tso Lin has launched the war to restore power to the Anfou party, which Marshal Ou Pei Fou had chased out of Peking in 1920. The Anfou party represents the movement hostile to the unity of the empire. It prefers federalism to the unitary and centralizing system. China, according to its doctrinaires, will recover tranquility and prosperity as soon as its provinces are removed from the authority, moreover fictitious, of the government of Peking. In short, the Anfou party would like to realize a kind of United States of China. It is also assured that Tchang Tso Lin, whose president Tuan Tsi Jouei will be the creature, is the paid champion of Japan. |
