THE CHINESE FIGHT WITH PAPER-MACHE!

LONDON, November 22. A reader of the Times who signs. "An Englishman from Shanghai," has written to this paper to describe how wrong it was to take too seriously the recent military events in China. He sent to the Times a sample of paper bullets which had been taken from Chinese soldiers who were trying to enter the French concession at Shanghai.
He adds that millions of similar bullets have been manufactured in the arsenals of the government, whose directors have put into their own pockets the money which had been paid for the purchase of metal.

A SHARK IS BEING CATCHED ON THE NORMAN COAST

CAEN, November 12. (From our private correspondent.) - These last few days, Mr. Charles Lecourc, skipper of a fisherman at Villers-sur-Mer, accompanied by the sailors Paul Bloche, Martel, went to sea to take in their nets which they had set the day before. Surprised by the resistance they encountered in bringing one of these nets on board, they had to combine their efforts, when suddenly an enormous shark appeared, struggling and giving such violent blows of its tail that the fishermen feared to see their canoe capsize.
Armed with their oars, they used them as clubs and they succeeded in knocking the monster out. It was no easy task to bring it on board, because it measures nearly 2 m. 50 long and weighs 160 kilos.
The head of the voracious creature, armed with three rows of solid teeth, was preserved by Mr. Lecourc. He suffered a loss of nearly 300 francs of nets rendered useless by this unwelcome guest.
