The St-Raphaël Sea Bathing Establishment
The Revue du Touring-Club, in its latest issue, published the following: The sea bathing establishment currently under construction in Saint-Raphaël, having given rise to complaints whose echoes have reached us, we asked the prefect of Var, Mr. Barnier, who follows very closely, as we know, everything concerning the development of the Côte d'Azur, if this construction had been duly approved after investigation. Here is his response: "I have the honor to inform you that during the year 1922, a project had been submitted to me which, after investigation, had given rise on my part to a refusal of execution because it provided in particular for a raised construction which would certainly have obscured the panorama which can be seen from the promenade of the boulevard Félix-Martin. "The project currently being executed has eliminated all the disadvantages presented by the projects that had been previously submitted to me; therefore, it has received my approval. "The project in question achieves, with the practical advantages of a modern bathing establishment, an embellishment likely to increase the number of visitors to the resort; it offers an additional attraction to the public who will have free access to the terrace that extends over the entire building, thus enlarging the sidewalk that constitutes the current promenade. "The central part of the building, more exposed to damage by heavy seas, has been slightly raised for this reason, but this raising cannot in any way harm the aesthetics or the perspective of the boulevard promenade.
