At the Grand Palais, the 19th Automobile Show

The 19th Automobile Show

Here we are already on the third day of the Show, which will be very close to being over by the time our readers read these lines. And we can say that these first three days have been very busy: Thursday, first contact: Friday, inauguration by President Doumergue, a chic day, and, after dinner, a very brilliant evening; today, Saturday, finally, many popular visits.

It was, in fact, the first time since its opening that one could enter the Grand Palais for only 5 francs, the previous days having operated at double price. This price reduction coinciding with the English weekday brought, as one might expect, a very large and interesting public to the great exhibition. Many people belonging to the automobile industry, factory workers and, sometimes, those who had worked on the assembly of the chassis exhibited, came to admire their children, even to criticize those of others and sometimes without indulgence. Yesterday's evening, on the other hand, was a great success and the Grand Palais, flooded with lights, presented a magical sight. Not only were the leaders of automobile construction on their stands, but also many personalities from the world of sport and theater had gathered at the Grand Palais. It was much better, much livelier and more chic than the previous year, and the cause of the Salon playing at night now seems won, which allows us to predict a great success for that of next Friday.

Henry Dudon.

"SPINNING" THE TRAIN... PRESIDENTIAL!

A great first yesterday ...
The manufacturers received His Excellency Mr. Doumergue, chief magistrate of the Republic. 10:30 a.m., the republican cars appear ... the surroundings of the Grand Palais are cleared, slowly, without any bumps, however it is necessary that a few peace officers shout inopportunely, even if there is no need for it ... strange mentality ... overzealousness or nervousness? Red carpet... Republican guards... why don't they have their leather pants?... probably because, like pretty women, our brave guards only "put on their skin" for the big nights out!

Top hats, morning coats... the President has a smile and a kind word for everyone. And it's the parade... people hurry, it's the one who will catch a word from the President on the fly and write it down on his tablets.
There has definitely been something changed... the President wants to see everything, he stops everywhere, has the new things shown to him and, for an hour and a half, "tramples on the carpets" (according to the expression of one of our colleagues), followed by a few ministers, General Gouraud and the crowd of pen-pushers in need of copy... We are a long way from the quick glance and the whirlwind passage of Mr. Doumergue's predecessors!

The round continues... we arrive at the buffet.... will the President push his kindness to the point of offering something to all those who accompany him, smile, greet and bow with him... No, no, we pass, we have passed... Daniel Cousin and others are sorry... Life is definitely made up of illusions!!

It is broad daylight and, however, the Grand Palais is lit up "à giorno". Wouldn't the presidential visit and the general overview gain from taking place in the evening? We pass in front of Duniop... everyone on deck and... all these ladies on the balcony, there were three of them who looked like three sisters, each dressed in yellow sweaters with black and white facings... The Dunlop stable looks great...

We follow... we follow desperately... suddenly, a well-known firm, has leaflets distributed by a Fratellini or a lookalike... A little gloomy, this clownish apparition, in the great light of the morning!

Then, we pass in front of the cycle exhibition... We recognize faces that we see on all the tracks, in all the demonstrations, cyclists... Then, we go back down... Halfway up the central staircase, we are shot at point-blank range by the photographers and cinema operators... Kindly, Mr. Doumergue and his followers pose in front of the lenses... Slowly, the procession stretches towards the exit... Re… municipal guards, sabers drawn... The presidential cars advance... A few words of farewell... Noon... The presidential visit is over... The 19th Salon is officially opened. - .

ACROSS THE STANDS

Alfa Roméo
The splendid victory of Alfa Roméo in the Grand Prix de l'ACF in Lyon, is still present in all memories and it is useless to recall it. The crowd presses around the famous Stand admiring the chassis exhibited, of which the 5 cylinder particularly attracts the attention of connoisseurs. We are impatiently awaiting, like a trophy, the Campari car…

The Th. Schneider Exhibition
Th. Schneider, the great manufacturer from Besançon, has the wisdom to do only one thing to do it well: his 10 CV, a robust chassis type, His 10 CV tourism, 4-cylinder 72 X 120 4-speed engine. Zenith carburetor. Transmission by centered cardan. Powerful braking. Irreversible and adjustable steering.

The President at Peugeot
Mr. Robert Peugeot and the Company's managing directors, Messrs. Koechlin and Rosengart, received Mr. Gaston Doumergue, President of the Republic, at their stand at the Grand-Palais. Keenly interested in the original presentation of a 10 HP chassis, mounted on two axles and presenting all its faces to the admiration of connoisseurs, Mr. Doumergue took away, when he left, the first copy that Mr. Robert Peugeot gave him, of a curious catalog published in anaglyphs.

Terrot
The Dijon brand whose network of 1,200 agents extends throughout France, is exhibiting at the Salon (Stand 87, balcony V), the complete range of its products (bicycles and motorcycles). Terrot's production, rightly renowned, has always been first-rate, and the development of its business which has led to that of its factories is the best proof of this.
