A Speech by President Coolidge
WASHINGTON, October 25. President Coolidge addressed a dinner last evening given by the Near East Relief Association. The President said in part:
Europe does not ask for charity, she wants our help, and we are ready to give it." The United States wants a peace based on good will, not a peace of force imposed by those who have power. The United States wants a peace which is a normal, just, safe state for the world, from which a wiser generation will have banished war forever." After recalling that in the past eight years the United States has provided more than $18,000,000 in loans, gifts, and relief, President Coolidge added We have no greater desire than to be good and helpful neighbors to all, although it may seem that we keep aloof from the scenes of conflict.
