A friend of the former minister W. Churchill, an Englishman named Timmins, had disappeared in June 1914, during a shipwreck in the Pacific Ocean. He was believed to be dead. A ship, recently passing off an islet that was thought to be uninhabited, suddenly saw signals.
A whaler was sent ashore and there they discovered our man, returned almost to a wild state, shaggy, dressed in leaves and quite surprised to see human figures again. For ten years, this new Robinson had lived from fishing and a few vague crops, with no other companion than a parrot that he had tamed.
What especially capped his astonishment was to learn the details of the war that had devastated Europe during its isolation in the middle of the waves.
