CURIOSITY
In the memory of collectors, we have not seen, in October, a sale as important as that of the jewels of Miss S.... at which presided Mr. H. Baudoin, assisted by Messrs. Reinach and Charraud. A total of 3,622,000 francs is not a common thing, even in the high season. So, Mr. Henri Baudoin struck some sensational hammer blows, in front of a packed room and where the air was almost unbreathable. (When will the police prefect decide to bring a little hygiene to the Hôtel Drouot?) We saw a necklace of three rows of 237 pearls rise to 1,102,000 francs; a necklace of 123 pearls to 551,500 francs, and a third less important necklace to 220,000 francs. Among the other jewels, a set of emeralds and brilliants, divided into two lots, made 177,000 and 83,500 francs. Also noteworthy is a bracelet with three emeralds, 240,500 francs; a tiara with four brilliants and three pear-shaped pearls, 139,000 francs; a barrette brooch, 191,400 francs; a brooch with sapphire, 141,800 francs; a pair of earrings, 119,800 fr.." and a pearl ring, 112,000 francs.
