The "Pompon" Petition A petition that had been circulating for several weeks in favor of Dachary, known as Pompon, the candy merchant, has just been delivered to us. Here is the text: "We, the undersigned, living in the town of Arcachon or passing through, declare that we protest against the ban, imposed only since 1924, on certain small street vendors who were useful and friendly to us, such as Mr. Dachary and his employee, Mr. Cledière, sellers of barley sugar and candy, from coming to the beach, offering us their goods while avoiding the inconvenience of going to get them. "We urge the Mayor to lift the ban at least in favor of the most worthy, affirming to him that we have never seen or heard that the two aforementioned merchants or any of the more interesting ones among the others have ever provoked the slightest complaint, caused the smallest scandal or caused any obstacle to traffic, which is almost non-existent in this place. Closed in Arcachon on October 20, 1924. (Followed by 163 signatures collected by two members of the French Crafts, Messrs. André Brun and A. Gautier who themselves signed a declaration of authenticity of the previous ones and had it legalized, on October 16, 1924, by Mr. Bon, mayor of Arcachon)». |
