A GREAT AIR RAID

The "Z-R-3" over the Atlantic

Today one of the most interesting air raids takes place.
Can one, without too much difficulty, cross the Atlantic Ocean?

The Z. R. 3, which will attempt this journey, is one of the largest zeppelins built to date. It measures 200 meters in length, 28 meters in diameter, 30 in height and 70,000 cubic meters. It is equipped with five Maybach engines of 400 hp, of a new type. The only concern that one can have, apart from the atmospheric question, therefore lies in the degree of development of these engines

75 Hours of Flight
Several test trips have been made, the last one included more than thirty hours of flight. It should not be forgotten, however, that the duration of the crossing will certainly amount to seventy-five hours, and what the engines have been able to do does not prove that they are capable of the same work over more than double the duration.
The exact route is still imprecise. According to the news received at the last minute on the atmospheric state, Commander Eckener will decide. It is likely that the route followed will be Basel, Bordeaux, the Azores, because a storm had been announced as raging in Ireland.
Intended solely for commercial exploitation, this airship was built so that it could carry the heavy weight of forty-three tons, which will allow it to make its journey without stopping.
