THE HOLIDAYS ARE OVER! SCHOOLCHILDREN ARE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL TODAY

After two months of holidays, young pupils are returning to primary and nursery schools today. Given the bad weather, which forced many families to cut short their absence from the capital, school principals believe that the return to school will be quicker and more complete than usual and that no new pupils will be registered during the entire month of October. However, we will have to wait until All Saints' Day to know, according to the statistical reports drawn up at the beginning of the school year by education inspectors, the exact number of children attending schools.

One thing is certain: according to the proposals of the Prefect of the Seine, approved by the municipal council and the departmental council of primary education, there are, as of today, in Parisian schools: 45 job cuts for male teachers, 24 job cuts for female teachers and 31 jobs for nursery school teachers. Only eleven jobs have been created: two jobs for male teachers, five for female teachers and four for nursery school teachers.

The new regulations for nursery schools, established by the departmental council of primary education, according to the new official instructions, and recently approved by the Minister of Public Education, will be sent in the next few days to all the directors of nursery schools in Paris and the suburbs.

As of today, many courses organized in Parisian schools are being resumed: 44 pre-apprenticeship courses for boys and 15 for girls, aged twelve to fourteen; 12 home economics courses for girls and twelve additional vocational courses for boys under the age of fifteen. For adults of both sexes, fifty commercial courses will operate. Starting October 6, sixteen technical courses (wood, iron, modeling, electricity, etc.) will be open to boys with a primary school certificate. The thirty-seven singing courses for adults will resume on October 15.

Today is also the day that middle and high school students return to class. As we announced on September 12, a modern fifth and a modern sixth form are now open, temporarily, in all secondary schools. The classical section, as established last year by Mr. Léon Bérard, will continue to operate in parallel with this new modern section.
