A VERY AMERICAN IDEA
"The Image of Death" to Regulate Traffic
"The Image of Death" in a luminous poster, such is the latest invention of the New York police to regulate traffic. It was tried yesterday for the first time on the famous Fifth Avenue, at a point that is considered to be the most dangerous in the capital. It is a significant reminder to order, addressed especially to pedestrians who are in the habit of crossing by weaving through the torrent of vehicles and who are commonly referred to, in New York, as "merry walkers". Under the macabre image, a luminous sign bears the following inscriptions: "You are mine, merry walkers." "I will have you, carefree man." "Wait a minute, save your life," etc. According to the newspapers, the same procedure will be used at all dangerous intersections, but it is not said whether the "happy walkers" are very impressed by it.
