According to patent statistics, the number of French inventors is increasing

The number of patent applications and certificates of addition filed in 1922 with the National Industrial Property Office was 17,719. That of patents and additions issued was 18,300.

The number of patents filed, which had risen in 1920 and 121 to about 19,509, fell in 1922 by 1,745.

jl should not be inferred from this a decrease in industrial activity in 19%, but we must not lose sight of the fact that the year 1921 still included a fairly large number of applications made under the benefit of the extension of the priority periods provided for by international convention resulting from treaties and arrangements concluded after the war,

It should be noted that the number of patents issued to French inventors is significantly higher than that of patents issued to foreign inventors, whereas in 1913 (a normal pre-war year
to which it is advisable to refer to establish exact comparisons) the situation was reversed (9.616 for the foreigners, against 7.532 for the French).

German nationals

On the other hand, it should be noted that the number of patents granted to German nationals fell from 3,467 in 1912 to 1,480 in 1922.

It is important, moreover, to note that these statistics, however scrupulously compiled they may be, do not represent exactly the movement of patents in France from the point of view of grant; for, extraordinary as it may seem, the credits allocated to the printing of patents (2,209,000 fr.) do not at present allow the publication of more than 18,009 patents per year.
Let us add that the total number of patents granted in France from 1791 to December 31, 1922 amounts to 387,202.
