Encouragement for chestnut cultivation.

With the credits made available by the Syndicat des Extraits Tannants et Tinctoriaux de France, to encourage the cultivation of the chestnut tree, the Aveyron Departmental Chestnut Commission will be able to grant bonuses and monetary rewards to owners who request it. or have them deliver chestnut plants.

I. Bonuses and cash rewards.

Owners who have rebuilt chestnut groves during 1923 and 1924 will be able to obtain bonuses and monetary rewards:
1° By planting chestnut trees in bare land;
2° By conserving existing chestnut groves in decline or disappearing by rejuvenating the subjects or filling in gaps, by the rational felling of old trees and appropriate care for young subjects.

Any request must contain, very accurately, along with the name, first names, home and postal address of the interested party:

1° The location of the planted plots, locality, (section and number of the land register);
2° The surface area of plots planted on bare land;
3° The number of feet planted;
4° The surface area of the chestnut groves reconstituted by the rejuvenation of the subjects;
5° The number of rejuvenated feet;
6° The number of plants grafted onto planted trees or rejuvenated plants;
7° The very exact number, with synonyms if applicable, of the varieties multiplied by grafting, as well as the name of the varieties used as rootstocks;
8° Indication of maintenance work on trees and undergrowth;
9° All indications relating to the creation and maintenance of a nursery, if applicable;
10° The date of the improvement;
11° The nature of the land:
12° All indications relating, if applicable, to the appearance and development of chestnut disease (ink disease);
13° Finally, all information enabling the effort made to develop chestnut cultivation to be appreciated.

Registrations must reach, before December 15, 1924, either to the Directorate of Agricultural Services of Aveyron, in Rodez, or to the Water and Forests Inspectorate, in Rodez.

II. Delivery of chestnut plants.

Owners and Forest School Societies who wish to obtain chestnut tree plants (medium and high stem), for planting next fall and spring, must send their request, before October 1, either to the management of Agricultural Services, in Rodez, or at the Water and Forests Inspectorate, in Rodez.
Interested parties will be responsible for packaging and transport costs and will have to pay a fee of one franc per plant for tall stems.
Any request must clearly indicate:

1° The exact address of the interested party;
2° The recipient’s station;
3° The surface area and location of the plots to be planted (section and land register number);
4° The number of plants requested;
5° The nature of the land to be reforested.

Note. A notice on the chestnut tree, published by the Chestnut Commission at the Ministry of Agriculture (Directorate General of Water and Forests), will be sent, upon request, prepaid and accompanied by shipping costs, to any farmer who requests it.
