FOR THE PARIS TOILET

The dustman volunteers find that the job is good

The "dustman" having gone on strike and the roads as well as the hygiene of the City of Paris risking serious suffering, the services of the Civic Union "have, with commendable promptness, provided for the replacement of the defaulters .

The “dustman” volunteers are recruited from all walks of life and more particularly from high school students, commercial employees, veterans registered on the “Civic Union” lists as possible machinists.

It is, in fact, the “dustman” drivers who are currently refusing any service. Engineers, industrialists, two lawyers and a doctor immediately – and with a smile – took their place at the wheel of the heavy “Sita”.
A short four-hour day
At the Headquarters on rue Solférino, this morning we saw a young “muddy” volunteer who, once his tour was over, came to take orders.

- Are you happy ? we asked him.
-Delighted !
- Is your service difficult?
- No, the “Sita” are no more difficult to drive than buses and Jourds weights, I know that, I handled them enough during the war, in Flanders.
- What time do you start?
- At 7. 30 we leave from the suburban depots and at 11 a.m. 30, the day is already over. In the afternoon, I walk around so happy not to be at the bank...

An enviable salary
And the young scholarship holder, out of trash, explained to anyone who would listen that his "boss" had put him on leave at the request of the "Civic Union", and that he welcomed this strike for various reasons. reasons:

1- The doctor recommended that he live in the open air;
2- Being “dustman” is much more “fun” than cutting coupons; 3- It is very good to take an afternoon walk in the woods, around Paris
4- It is a much more lucrative job than that of a bank employee.

The volunteers of the “Civic Union” are paid 33 francs per day (ordinary rate for “dustman”), while the financial remuneration of our interlocutor does not exceed 23 francs per day (700 francs per month).

« Honny be whoever smells bad »

As for fresh air, replied a skeptical old gentleman who was keen to join in the conversation, the air you breathe on your rubbish car must not exactly be loaded with enchanting perfumes...
There are better, in fact, sighed the "dustman" interim, but our cars close at will, the collection of "boxes" is done in a very modern way and then "honny be whoever smells bad".
In addition, we find truly curious things in Parisian trash cans! Didn't we discover, this morning, in one of them, next to an album of old photographs, a wedding dress in poor condition...
After what vicissitudes and as a result of what dark destiny, this wedding adornment found itself rejected among ashes and oyster shells.
