THE LYMPNE FLYING COMPETITION

The Royal Aero Club of England is organizing, as last year, a major competition for low-power aircraft at Lympne. The prizes are as follows: Air Ministry, 3,000 pounds; Duke of Sutherland, 500 pounds, and Captain C.B. Wilson, 100 pounds.

The heats will be judged on maximum and minimum speed. The maximum speed will be recorded during 2 flights each of approximately 120 km; it must reach at least 96 km per hour. The minimum speed, based on 450 meters, must not exceed 72 km. The allocation of points for the test will be done as follows: a coefficient 0 expressed as 0/0 will be given by the ratio:

This coefficient must be greater than 1/3 - 33.33 0/0;
8 points will be awarded for each additional 1/100.

Lift-off. In a straight line, passing over a 7 m barrier. 60 The pilot will choose the location from which he will begin his takeoff. If this is successful, one point will be awarded per yard below the distance of 450 yards.

Landing In a straight line passing over a 1 m barrier. 80. The distance from where the device has stopped to the barrier will be measured. One point will be awarded for each yard below 150. Brakes may be used, provided they are used for the duration of the competition.
