bobsleigh day at the Olympics

THE FIRST DAY OF BOBSLEIGHS IN CHAMONIX SAW SWITZERLAND TRIUMPH

1. THE DAVOS TEAM, WHO RETURNED; 2. THE SWISS TEAM SCHERRER 3. THE FRENCH TEAM BERG; 4. THE WINNERS; 5. THE ENGLISH TEAM SECOND

For the first day of the bobsleighs, competitors had to complete two descents on the 1,433 meter track, comprising seven turns, which descends to the side of the Aiguille du Midi. The times of the two courses were totaled. The best time was that of the Swiss team led by captain Scherrer, who made the second descent in 1 m. 26 sec. 6/5 and whose total time is 2 m. 53 f. Broome's British team came second with 2m. 57 f. Three bobsleighs were victims of accidents. The most serious was that of the Swiss team of Stoffel. Guldener was relieved with a fracture of his left tibia and fibula. Fragments of bone, protruding from the flesh, caused violent hemorrhage. Legrand's French team turned around twice.
