Midnight...at two p.m.
The Parisian sky suddenly darkened yesterday around midday, taking on that greenish tint that Londoners call pea soup. It was soon necessary to light in apartments, shops and offices. This darkness persisted until two o'clock, then there was relative clearing.
This phenomenon was due, we were told at the Central Meteorological Bureau, to the gathering of smoke from the Paris region, temporarily favored by a total absence of wind. At this time, we recorded, in fact, at the top of the Eiffel Tower, 0 on the anemometer. This particularity was also local and the region of Versailles did not have to point it out.
The rain which started again in the early hours of the afternoon washed the atmosphere somewhat and then restored to the various districts of Paris the attenuated luminosity of winter days,
