On this occasion, we are publishing here with pleasure the poetry of Mr. René d'Helbingue, which the author dedicates to the Chevalier de Cessole, the "soul" of the Club-Alpin.
The Ballad of the “Alpine Club”
To Mr. Knight Victor de Cessole Happy are the cold winter residents Along the forgiving sea Where the wave, with pretty blue tones Gets golden, shiny or silver! Under this changing light Idleness, sweet to the rapine, Is an intelligent fairy: Long live our dear Alpine Club! On the flanks of the glorious Castle,
With a conquering build, The Old Town of the ancestors Filled with a vibrant crowd; However, Phyllis and Dorante On whom love laid its grasp, Run the fragrant countryside: Long live our dear Alpine Club! The Alps lace the skies,
And on the winding lace, The radiant Mountaineers, Despite the bag, taunt the slope! Under their feet, the rock is burning But each of them is a "rabbit" To the supple legs of Atalanta: Long live our dear Alpine Club! Princess at the Lazy Bay Where your cheerful face is painted, Nice, repeat, sparkling: Long live our dear Alpine Club! RENÉ D’HELBINGUE.
