FAIR CHILDREN School on Wheels, The fairground class includes 152 students Yesterday, at two o'clock, under the presidency of Mr. Henry Paté, deputy of Paris, and of Mr. Emile Faure, municipal councilor and general of the Seine, took place in the village hall of the Town Hall of Neuilly, the distribution of prizes to students of the Paris primary school. Curious and touching in its simplicity, this school is made up of two caravans that can accommodate around ninety students. It follows all the main fairs, in October at La Villette, then at Vaugirard, then at Lion-de-Belfort, at Trône, at Les Invalides, at Montmartre, at Neuilly and so all year round. The fairgrounds send their children there every time they participate in the fair where it is located. This explains the figure of one hundred and fifty-two students registered and an average of around eighty actually attending classes. Twenty years later For twenty years, Miss Nicolas, the teacher, has led the classes with enthusiasm and firmness, and at the beginning, she had to show great courage, because at that time there was not even a car, and it was in a shop, even under a tent, that she had to do her lessons. Today, education can be done regularly and every year, several study certificates are awarded. Good students, little boys or girls, receive at the end of the year in addition to prizes, compass boxes, books, etc., a savings account book of five francs, the amount they can see it grow to twenty or thirty francs even depending on their good places and the generosity of donors. We are asking for a new car The situation of the school therefore seems prosperous; unfortunately, one of the two cars falls into disrepair; remained during the war in a field, in Montreuil, she was affected by the rain, the sun and the roof collapsed, the walls were poorly joined, it rained during lessons on the children's heads; although it is securely propped up during fairs, an accident could happen. It would perhaps be necessary for this beautiful work, that the City of Paris, instead of withdrawing its subsidy of 5,000 francs, take into consideration the repeated requests of Mr. Druel, president of the Board of Directors of the school. Let us hope, in any case, that it will be possible to find the necessary funds and that the school will be able to develop instead of perhaps having to close its doors. |
