WE CAN ORGANIZE OURSELVES

Many readers of the Echo de Paris wrote to me about the article “Let’s organize the opposition”.

The vast majority of people who have done me the honor of writing to me say: We must organize, fight; the Left Bloc represents the minority of the French, it is our divisions, our lack of organization, of program which led us to defeat.

It is certain that our adversaries are organized, and unfortunately they have as active cadres the majority of teachers and many civil servants.

We demand the reform of our administrations, their adjustment, while the radical socialists want at all costs to maintain the current routine, as the true reactionaries that they are. We want to modernize our system. administrative, make it alive, economical.

Taxpayers who don't want to see what our outdated organization is costing them are truly ignorant. As for civil servants, there are many who, while desiring reforms, nevertheless fear being victims.

Transitional measures will certainly be necessary, but reform is essential, the future of France depends on it. While Germany has just reduced the number of its civil servants by 350,000, France is, with Russia, the country which has the most. It is not flattering for our country to have the faults of the Soviet Empire.

The United States gives us a model of party political organization.

In this country, the Republican Party and the Democratic Republican Party have the following organization: The deputies and senators of a party form a union which appoints a steering committee. In France, it would be necessary, in addition to parliamentarians, to appoint some well-known people to this committee.

Then, the deputies, the senators of each State delegated to Washington, form a regional committee of which the elected representatives of the State belong; with us, these people would be the general councilors. This group in turn appoints a committee which receives directives from the higher committee in Washington and which organizes the party throughout the state.

Conferences and public meetings are organized by these committees, and leaflets summarizing the conference are distributed at the end of the meetings; These leaflets allow listeners to recall the conference and have arguments for discussion. Many people claim that leaflets are an ineffective process, this is an error; it is through leaflets and newspapers that our adversaries spread their harmful doctrines throughout the country. It is obvious that there is a considerable effort to be made, we must fight against preconceived ideas, to attenuate the overly individualistic ideas of the French.

Then, I come back to the bourgeoisie, they must know that their business to which they devote themselves, although carried out by them, it is understood, will decline if waste and national decomposition continue and increase.

Universal suffrage, which is master of France, is in general very poorly educated, it ignores both French and global economic issues. How can you hope for intelligent elections if you do not seek, not on the eve of the elections, but at all times, to educate the voter?

The radical-socialist press and the socialist press promise a lot to the voters; every day, they excite passions, jealousies, hatreds, in order to dominate; but they are careful not to educate the voter.

It is laughable to talk about conscious workers, while in far-left meetings, there is no question of the serious problems of work, agriculture, industry, commerce, when only developed hatred, jealousy, the anti-scientific theories of socialism of Karl Marx.

A powerful, living organization, like the American organizations, can save us from the ruin of France. It is essential to get to work.

GASTON JAPY. Senator from Doubs.

We can organize ourselves: We must defend ourselves from the Union of the Left, called the Cartel.
