WILL THE JULY 14 REVIEW TAKE PLACE?
Yesterday, in the Senate, Mr. Mauger asked the President of the Council if, because of the weather, the government was prepared to cancel the July 14 review. Mr. Herriot replied:
The government has decided, and this decision has not yet been changed, to maintain the July 14 review. It is an excellent tradition of the republican regime to associate the army with the national holiday and to allow the population to show their gratitude to the army. But it is also our duty to avoid accidents that excessive temperature could cause to our soldiers. The Minister of War therefore authorized army corps commanders to eliminate magazines in the provinces in the event of excessive heat. This circular is obviously also applicable in Paris. The Minister of War will make a final decision in this regard this evening or tomorrow morning depending on the state of the temperature.
