Hello! Hello! Mars!

Yesterday was the vigil of astronomers and radio enthusiasts... at least in America.

Yesterday, the planet Mars came closer to the earth, so close that it was only... 56 million kilometers away! Barely 150 times further than the moon and as this has not happened for 120 years, the American wireless sent messages to the inhabitants of the planet Mars for 36 hours, starting at midnight on August 23.
It is even announced from Ottawa that the Martians have reported their presence. A dispatch informs us, in fact, that strange messages have been received at the Point Grey (Vancouver) radio station.
"The experts," the telegram says, "are convinced that the messages come from the planet Mars. The signals sent do not correspond to any code in use and are sent at regular intervals. It is not possible to eliminate them. "Four groups of signs were heard, they began with a low note and ended with the word "Jopp" or "Zipp".

It is not impossible that the planet Mars is inhabited, since it has an atmosphere, but to suppose that the Martians, if they exist, are men like us, are worried about us and know about wireless, is another thing. It must also be admitted that knowing wireless, the Martians use the same signs as we do... These are indeed hypotheses!

In any case, Mr. Nordmann Edward, director of an English magazine, asks all his readers to listen, with the greatest care and for a few days, to the signals that can be collected between 1:30 and 2:00. 30, on a wavelength of 30,000 meters.

At the Paris Observatory, no official communication has been made. Moreover, the results of the observations will be of a completely scientific nature and exact control will not be immediate.

On the question of mysterious signals that would come from the planet Mars, scientific circles are generally skeptical.
But... let's not discourage amateurs!
