The following petition was addressed to the Mayor of Auvers by the Chaponval Interest Group:
At the cemetery.
Those of our fellow citizens whom affection and memory call more or less frequently to the Auvers cemetery, so far from their homes, suffer from not having at their disposal, in the resting place or nearby, a water supply that allows them to more easily maintain the few flowers or plants piously placed on the tomb of a dear departed. At a time when expansion or improvement work is being carried out in our necropolis, we believe that it is not excessive to point out a shortcoming always regretted by visitors to the cemetery who come from Chaponval or Valhermeil, obliged for such a long journey, to take care of the objects and utensils necessary for the supply of water for irrigation.
